Update: Thursday December 8th, 2:30pm
Mike is in critical condition with extensive injuries. He has blood in his brain, a fractured spine, bilateral rib fractures, left collapsed lung (they are putting a chest tube in now,) multiple bone injuries, including left femur and right rib/fib, a spleen injury, a kidney injury, he is currently sedated with pain medication and with a breathing tube. He is not following commands or opening his eyes. They did see some movement in his lower right extremity so that is a hopeful sign in terms of spinal cord injury.
Mike also has fractures in his scapula and pelvis. I am authorizing surgery for tomorrow on his left femur and right tibia that will involve a metal Rod/screws. At the same time they will do a CT of his head and ankle. There has been no scan for brain activity yet as they don't see that as necessary at this time. He is heavily sedated and his right arm has a lot of superficial road rash but there are no injuries to that arm. He has a dedicated nurse just for him.
They don't know what happened to him, and directed me to the police department to find the report. They do know he came in wearing a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads so we assume he was on his scooter.
While I was here his blood pressure dropped significantly, so they are running more lab work to make sure his spleen didn't take a turn. He has some response on the right side of his body (pupil to light, reactions to pain) but there is no response on the left side of the body and he is voluntarily unresponsive to requests like open your eyes, squeeze my hand, or wiggle your toes. It is still too early to make anything of that information.
Any visitors are advised that they must be comfortable seeing Mike in a very extensively injured state.
